WALTON COUNTY, Fla ( WMBB ) – DeFuniak Springs has a new city manager.

City council members have hired Koby Townsend to take the position on September 23rd. Townsend had been serving as interim city manager since March 28th.

He has been a city employee for about two and a half years, so he’s already familiar with operations. Townsend says he’s looking forward to positive changes and increased engagement between city hall, citizens, and local organizations.

“I work closely with every department here. And so we have the fire department, police, planning finance, transportation, utilities, and maintenance. And so it’s a litany of things. I go from emergency management one minute to a citizen request or complaint the next,” City of DeFuniak City Manager Koby Townsend said.

Townsend has already improved accessibility at city parks and added new equipment. He’s currently is working on some key initiatives, like financial sustainability, trust through transparency, and improving the city’s quality of life.
