    Dothan man seriously injured in Jackson County crash

    JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Jackson County on Sunday.

    According to a news release, the crash happened at about 2:44 p.m on Highway 231 and Barber Road.

    Troopers said a 79-year-old man from Cottondale driving a sedan was at a stop sign on Barber Road at the intersection of US 231. A 25-year-old Dothan woman driving an SUV was traveling northbound on US 231 approaching Barber Rd in the same area.

    The sedan attempted a left-hand turn southbound on US 231 from Barber violating the SUV’s right of way. As a result, the SUV front center struck the sedan left center causing disabling damage, troopers wrote.

    Both drivers sustained minor injuries, including a passenger in the sedan. Troopers said the passenger of the SUV a 27-year-old man from Dothan sustained serious injuries.

    The SUV also included five children who were between 1 and 8 years old. Troopers confirmed they were not injured.

    The Jackson County Fire Rescue, Marianna Fire Rescue, Cottondale Volunteer Fire Dept., Alford Volunteer Fire Dept., Air Heart, Air Methods, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and FHP assisted during this crash.
