METAMORA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — To say that winning is expected in Metamora is an understatement.

To say the Redbirds want to establish the run is a given. And that’s why the 2024 Metamora football team is excited about the upcoming season.

Junior Jaiduan Cranford leads a talented corps of running backs for Metamora, which looks for its 28th playoff appearance since 1994.

Cranford rushed for 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns a year ago for an 8-3 Redbird team that made it to the second round of the state playoffs. Senior Evan Keil figures to carry a good chunk of the load carrying the football alongside Cranford.

And Shea Seals is a talented running back that helps round out that Metamora backfield.

“We are pretty deep at the position with guys that can carry the ball,” said Keil. “There’s a lot of talent back there.”

Those Redbirds will be running behind a revamped offensive line. Senior left tackle Landon Cowper is the only returning starter on the line.

“As powerful as the running back corps is, plus the line development, in practice we have been moving the ball. It’s looking great.,” said Cowper. “With Evan and Jaiduan and Shea, we are going to be pretty good this year.”

Three-year starters Cam Nickle (linebacker) and Avery Grebner (cornerback) anchor a defense returns eight starters, according to head coach Jared Grebner. The Redbirds are hoping for big results this fall.

Metamora opens the season at Sterling on Aug. 30.
