WASHINGTON, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Ten seasons and still going strong.

Mothers of Washington High School football players were invited to a preseason practice Thursday night. And they did more than just watch.

The moms helped stripe their son’s helmets, they learned about rules, equipment and the positions on the field. There were “roughly 80 moms” at the practice, according to Washington head coach Todd Stevens.

Then they ran through some drills on how to properly execute tackles. Which set up the highlight of the night, moms putting on pads and tackling their sons into a high jump pit.

The Washington football program has been doing this since 2015, according to Stevens. Thursday was the fourth day of fall football practice in Illinois.

Washington’s season opener is Aug. 30.
