Prep sports recap for Aug. 20, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Central Illinois players had a nice showing at the Redbird-Raider Invitational at Weibring Golf Club on Tuesday.

U-High finished runner-up for the second straight tournament. The Pioneers shot a 293 and were five shots behind Pleasant Valley.

On Monday, U-High finished one shot behind Morton in the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.

U-High’s Jack Quinn shot a 71 and teammate Brody Allen a 72. Richwoods senior Brock Brown carded shot a 71, which was three strokes behind the 68 fired by medalist Regan Komen of Marmion Academy.

East Peoria’s Connor Watson and Notre Dame’s Jack Coulter shot 1-over 72’s.

In prep football, some area high school teams are getting ready for the season by playing preseason games on Friday. The Illinois High School Association approved “Week Zero” games this year, which allows teams to play outside competition in a limited scrimmage for the first time.

Teams will get 12 offensive plays for each half. There will be no special teams plays in these games.

The Week Zero games will be fully-officiated.
