PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — The high school football season in Illinois officially kicks off on Aug. 30.

But some teams got a jump start on the season playing ‘Week Zero’ games Friday night. The Illinois High School Association now allows teams to play limited scrimmages against an opponent.

Each team is allowed 12 offensive plays in a half and there are no special teams plays. Several central Illinois schools played Week Zero games although scores were rarely kept.

Peoria High played at Washington, Richwoods travels to Pekin, Metamora hosted Chatham Glenwood, Canton hosted Manual, East Peoria played at IVC and Eureka hosted Farmington.

    Enjoy the highlights.
