PRINCEVILLE, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Princeville really likes the two players who figure to have their hands on the football a lot this season.

Three-year starting lineman Logan Olshawsky returns and is the center on the offensive line. He’ll be snapping the ball to former receiver Jake Williams, who moves into the starting quarterback position.

“The biggest thing is probably taking a bigger leadership role. That’s the biggest transition in going from receiver to quarterback.” said Williams. “I’m trying to be more of a vocal leader, there’s always something to work on as quarterback every day.”

Princeville earned a playoff for the fifth time in six seasons last fall. They were 5-4 in the regular season and then were eliminated by rival Stark County in the first round of the playoffs.

They bring five starters back on both sides of the football. Coach Jon Carruthers is confident in his guys up the middle, namely Olshawsky and Williams.

And the players say Williams has made a smooth transition into the quarterback spot.

“He’s such a dynamic player. Being a wide receiver he definitely knows the ins-and-outs of the routes,” said senior running back Jake Kied. “That gives him really good reads and he has arm talent.”

Princeville opens the season at Abingdon-Avon on Friday.
