PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A Peoria attorney has been appointed to fill a judicial vacancy in one of Peoria County’s juvenile courtrooms.

Vincent Cail, who currently works with the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission, will take over the juvenile delinquency courtroom, after being sworn in on Nov. 6.

“Vincent Cail will be an excellent addition to the judiciary of the 10th Circuit,” said Chief Judge Katherine Gorman. “On behalf of all the judges in the 10th Circuit, we welcome him and look forward to working with him.”

He is filling a vacancy left when then Associate Judge Tim Cusack who was made a circuit judge to fill another vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge John Vespa over the summer.

The appointment was announced by the state’s Supreme Court.

“Vincent Cail brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the judiciary, and I am confident that he will make a meaningful impact in our court system. We all look forward to working with him and benefiting from his contributions,” Gorman said.

Associate judges are not elected by the public but rather, chosen by a vote of the 10 current circuit judges within the 10th Judicial Circuit, which is made up of Peoria, Stark, Tazewell, Marshall and Putnam counties.

There are 11 associate judges within the circuit who serve four-year terms and who are considered for reappointment by the circuit judges every four years after being appointed to the bench.

Cail graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 2009 and got his law degree from Texas Southern University’s law school in 2009.
