It’s National Mamography Day, here are local ways to get yours

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Carle Health and OSF HealthCare are working to bring lifesaving screening to the uninsured and the underinsured.

As part of breast cancer awareness month, Carle and OSF will give free mammogram screenings today.

OSF HealthCare will provide the screenings at its Cancer Institute, located at 1310 N. Missouri Avenue in Peoria, until 3 p.m.

OSF will also be screening for skin cancer, oral cancer, lung cancer (low-dose CT scan) and colon cancer (take-home kit) according to their website

Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program will be there to help the uninsured and underinsured with covering mammograms.

Carle Health and Tazewell County have teamed up to offer free mammograms at these four locations until 4 p.m.

• Carle Health Methodist Diagnostic Center | 112 NE Crescent Ave., Peoria
• Carle Health Pekin Hospital | 600 S. 13th St., Pekin
• Carle Health Proctor Hospital | 5409 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria
• Carle BroMenn Outpatient Center | 3024 E. Empire St., Bloomington

“Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and the American Cancer Society says 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer in their lifetime. Yet, there are 4 million breast cancer survivors currently in the U.S. Mammogram screening is used for early detection, which leads to early treatment and survival.” Carle Health said.
