PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Organizations in Peoria will soon have a bus full of food for those in need.

At Kroger on Lake Ave, the Stuff-A-Bus food drive kicked off with a large gathering of people all celebrating the occasion.

This fundraiser is in its 37th year of serving the Peoria community.

To donate, shoppers can buy food from participating Kroger stores and place them in designated donation bins.

Shamra Robinson, director of community engagement and public relations for CityLink, the company providing the bus, said the community is always engaged whenever the fundraiser rolls around.

“Everybody is so excited to participate,” Robinson said. “We started getting calls, I want to say even two to three months before we even started the program just to kick off today because people just really want to donate and just pull up their sleeves and just give.”

Robinson also shared the purpose of the drive.

“We really just want to help the community and support any kind of way, because people need to understand it could be their neighbors that are in need of food donations, and this is just a great way to contribute,” she said.

According to Robinson, the goal for this year’s drive is to raise more than 12 tons of food.
