    Peoria fire claims the lives of two cats and costs $105,000 in damages

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A fire in a Peoria home caused about $105,000 in damages and took the lives of two cats.

    According to the Peoria Fire Department at approximately 8:20 p.m. Friday units were called to the scene of a house fire located at 2125 North Machin Avenue. When they arrived they saw smoke and fire at the rear of the house.

    One firefighter was sent to the hospital for burns received during the fire but has since been released and two cats lost their lives.

    Multiple crews were used to extinguish flames as well as work to search the house for any occupants.

    While searching the residence fire teams rescued three dogs and an iguana.

    An investigator was called to the scene to find the cause of the fire and a detection canine was used to search for any accelerant remnants.

    No residents were reported injured and a investigation is currently underway to find the cause of the fire.
