Illinois announced tax relief for counties affected by July storms

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Tax relief is now available for those Illinois residents who were affected by severe summer storms this year.

“As communities across Illinois recover from July’s severe storms, my administration remains committed to supporting them every step of the way,” said Gov. JB Pritzker. “Residents who live or have businesses in the affected areas won’t need to worry about incurring penalties and interest on their tax deadlines until February.”

“This additional time will allow them to gather essential paperwork and focus on recovering without added financial stress,” he said.

On July 13, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding ravaged several areas statewide. Within Central Illinois, Fulton County was hit the hardest.

Pritzker and the state’s Department of Revenue announced the tax relief for businesses and individuals in areas designated by FEMA .

As of right now, FEMA designated counties are Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will and Winnebago, and will apply to any counties that may be added later.

People who live and businesses in the designated counties also get extra time to pay their taxes.
