Cumberland County woman ‘overjoyed’ at surprise $133,315 jackpot

RALEIGH, N.C. — When Kemisha Vandunk of Spring Lake arrived in Raleigh to claim her lottery winnings, she had no idea she just won a $133,315 Cash 5 jackpot.

“When we got here and they told us how much it was, I was overjoyed,” she said. “I thought I won maybe $1,000.”

Vandunk said her Monday morning started in a typical way when she went to the Short Stop on Anderson Ponds Drive in Spring Lake to buy a coffee and a $1 Quick Pick ticket.

“It was just like any normal day and then boom,” Vandunk laughed.

She split the February 26 $266,630 Cash 5 jackpot with a winning ticket from Online Play in Fairview. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls playing Cash 5 are 1 in 962,598.

“I’ve got the shakes,” Vandunk said. “I am stoked right now.”

She arrived at lottery headquarters on February 27 to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $95,321.

Vandunk said she will put some of her winnings toward retirement and use some for her family’s trucking business.

“This will definitely help,” she said.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
