    ECU opens AAC baseball tournament Tuesday vs. Rice

    IRVING, Texas – Seeding is set for the 2024 American Baseball Championship presented by Regions, to be held at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla., May 21-26.

    The tournament will be played in a double-elimination format through the semifinal round. The championship final is a winner-take-all matchup Sunday, May 26, which will determine The American’s automatic entrant to the NCAA Championship.

    Live coverage of the first five days of the championship will be available on ESPN+, while the final will take place on May 26 at noon ET/11 a.m. CT on ESPNEWS. The most up-to-date information on The American Championship, including schedules, results and links to live scoring and the ESPN+ telecasts, can be found on Championship Central at www.TheAmerican.org/Baseball .

    The action begins Tuesday, May 21 when No. 5 UAB (26-27, 13-14 American) takes on No. 4 Wichita State (29-27, 15-12) at 9 a.m. Eastern, followed by No. 8 Rice (22-34, 11-16) against No. 1 East Carolina (40-13, 19-8) 47 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. No. 7 Charlotte (23-32, 12-15) takes on No. 2 UTSA (32-22, 17-10) at 4 p.m. Eastern, followed by No. 6 Florida Atlantic (26-27, 12-15) against No. 3 Tulane (31-24, 15-12).

    East Carolina captured its fifth-consecutive regular season title, winning six of its eight weekend series. Tulane defeated East Carolina in the 2023 American Baseball Championship final.
