Greenville Yard Gnomes set for season, home debut

GREENVILLE, N.C (WNCT) — Greenville baseball fans have another team to root for starting Thursday.

The Greenville Yard Gnomes summer collegiate baseball team will have their season debut against the Tri-City Chili Peppers. The two will face off again on Friday for the Yard Gnomes home opener.

They will play at Guy Smith Stadium where the sections have been built from the ground up as well as an entirely new roster full of players that have never competed with each other. With excitement to prove themselves in the Coastal Plains League, General Manager Michael Villafana says the hard work is paying off.

“I think when we kind of brought the team to life in January, you don’t really think of these moments quite yet,” he said.

“It’s all about the planning for the season but when the season finally arrives it’s a good feeling. And to have guys in town and starting to practice, I think we’re ready to go for Friday.”
