GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — It’s officially baseball season in the Coastal Plain League and the Old North State League.

Greenville Yard Gnomes set for season, home debut

The CPL has a full slate of games on Thursday, highlighted by the Greenville Yard Gnomes at the Tri-City Chili Peppers. It’s the first-ever game for the Yard Gnomes. The Morehead City Marlins are at the Wilson Tobs in the other featured match.

Old North State League

The Kinston Wingmen are joined by two new teams, the Jacksonville Osprey and New Bern Southpaws. Also returning are the Tarboro River Bandits.

Kinston starts play Saturday at 5 p.m. against Post 53 in a non-league game. Their first official league game is at home against Jacksonville on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Lancer Field on the campus of Lenoir Community College.

Jacksonville starts on the road with the Clayton Clovers on Saturday at 7. After the road game in Kinston, they have two more before the home opener against the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs on June 1 at Jack Amyette Park.

New Bern opens the season at home in a non-league game with the Wilson Bruins on June 2 at Kafer Park. Their first league game is against Tarboro on June 3 at Tarboro Municipal Stadium.
