    South Central baseball, Northside softball heading to state finals; Northside, Greene Central baseball stay alive

    GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Northside’s softball team and South Central’s baseball team punched their tickets to the state finals on Thursday.

    South Central’s baseball team advanced to the state finals for the first time in school history with a 6-2 win. South Central won its first game at Terry Sanford, 17-1, by hitting a state record three grand slams.

    Northside pulled away for a 15-5 win in six innings to advance to next week’s state finals. Northside scored four runs each in the second and third innings then got three more in the bottom of the sixth to win by the 10-run rule.

    The baseball state finals are also May 31-June 1 at Burlington Athletic Stadium and Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. Sites and times will also be set after the regional finals.

    The softball state finals are May 31-June 1 at Duke University and UNC Greensboro’s facilities. Sites and times will be set after the regional finals.

    Also on Thursday, Northside baseball won 7-4 to force a deciding third game at home on Friday against East Wake Academy. Greene Central baseball also forced a deciding game on Friday after winning in Whiteville, 4-0.

    Martin County softball saw its season come to a close after a 7-3 loss at home to Midway.

    South Central’s softball team saw its season end on Wednesday with a loss to South Brunswick.
