Northside, Greene Central baseball advance to state final

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Eastern NC high school baseball teams went 2-for-2 in wrapping up East Regional titles on Friday.

Just hours after Northside High School wrapped up the Class 1-A East Regional title in Pinetown, Greene Central did the same in Snow Hill in the Class 2-A East Regional final. Both teams join South Central baseball (Class 3-A) and Northside softball (Class 1-A) in next weekend’s state championships.

Greene Central won 9-1 over Whiteville to win the best-of-3 series. After a 1-1 tie through four innings, the Rams got five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to close the win out.

Northside’s baseball team rallied for a 4-1 win over East Wake Academy. Northside won Thursday in Zebulon, 7-4, to force the deciding game.

The baseball state finals are also May 31-June 1 at Burlington Athletic Stadium and Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. Sites and times will also be set after the regional finals.

Northside’s softball team won Thursday to take the East Regional title over Roxboro Community. South Central’s baseball team completed its sweep with a 6-2 win over Terry Sanford.
