MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A wanted man out of Bertie County, as a suspect in vehicle thefts, was arrested Tuesday in Mecklenburg County

Hasun Naz’iear Overton, 19, was taken into custody by Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputies. Overton is suspected in stealing two vehicles from the Lewiston-Woodville areas.

The first theft happened May 2 at a convenience store. A vehicle owner went inside the store and came out to find it was missing. That vehicle was found May 8 in Northhampton County.

The second theft happened at the Tobacco Shop in Lewiston May 30. A vehicle owner went into the store and came out to find it missing. That vehicle was later found in Gaffney, S.C. May 31, where the driver ran from law enforcement officers.

Through surveillance cameras and Overton using one of the victim’s bank cards, investigators linked him to both thefts. Overton was also charged in Mecklenburg County with additional vehicle thefts.

Overton was jailed in Mecklenburg County and has an upcoming court date in Bertie County.
