GREENVILLE, N.C (WNCT) — The eighth-annual Ronald Mcdonald House of Eastern North Carolina Telethon is Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The organization supports patients and their families of Maynard Children’s Hospital during a difficult time in their lives. The funds raised from the event not only supply basic necessities to them, but also fund events that the Ronald Mcdonald House hosts for the patients.

President and CEO Beth Anne Atkins said the telethon reminds patients and families how much community support they have.

“We want to keep patients and families together while the patients are being treated over at Maynard Children’s,” Atkins said. “Because evidence shows that if a family is with the patient and there’s patient family and family-centered care, care happening, then the patient’s going to heal faster. And so what we do, we provide just the resources and the space and the meals and all of the things for the families while their child is being treated. We’re able to keep them close to their child.”
