GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — ECU’s College of Nursing and ECU Health are launching an adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program.

It will prepare more specialized nurse practitioners in acute care settings across the state. Only 6.1 percent of nurse practitioners specialize in adult gerontology acute care.

The new collaboration will help boost the health care workforce in Eastern North Carolina and enhance access to specialized care for older adults in the community.

“With this partnership, I mean, when you look at it, it is a role model for what the standards are these days,” Vice President of Nursing Excellence at ECU Health Pam Rudisill said. “So, we’re super excited about this. We’re excited about the program and that it’s going to benefit ECU Health.”

The first cohort of ECU’s program will begin in Spring of 2025 and students who complete the course requirements on the recommended plan of study should graduate in May of 2026. The application deadline for the Spring of 2025 is Dec. 15, 2024.
