    New Bern man arrested after vehicle searched

    NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The Craven County Sheriff’s Office K9 Bureau conducted a traffic stop in Craven County on Sunday where one man was arrested after a search of his vehicle.

    The driver of the vehicle was identified as Stanley Lee Basnight of Columbia, N.C. During the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted due to probable cause. After the search by the deputies, 91 grams of MDMA were located, 19 grams of fentanyl, marijuana, $255, hand a handgun that was reported stolen in Tyrrell County.

    Basnight was arrested and charged with the following:

    • Trafficking Opioid by Possession
    • Trafficking Opioid by Transportation
    • Trafficking MDMA by Possession
    • Trafficking MDMA by Transportation
    • Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver Schedule I Controlled Substance
    • Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
    • Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver Schedule VI Controlled Substance
    • Felony Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for Controlled Substances
    • Possession of a Firearm by Felon
    • Possession of a Stolen Firearm
    • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
    • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

    He was transported to the Craven County Detention Center and took before the Magistrate. Basnight was then issued a $1,725,000 secured bond His first appearance at the Craven County Courthouse took place on Monday.
