Touchdown Friday a day away, here’s a look at the initial Backyard Brawl

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The 2024 high school football season kicks off Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 and one of the featured games in week one is a Backyard Brawl between Jacksonville and Southwest Onslow.

Last year, the Cardinals got the better of the Stallions, 35-20. Jacksonville High Coach Beau Williams said it’s always a big game for both teams.

“Our kids love to play them and they love to play us,” Williams said. “So, it’s a fun rivalry and we enjoy it. Oh yeah, there’s always a good crowd when we’re playing. They bring a good group. We have a good following, they got a good following so it’s always a fun atmosphere.”
