    1 dead after car bursts into flames in crash on NC 55 in Wake County

    MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – At least one person is dead following a crash that caused a car to erupt into flames in Wake County on Monday afternoon.

    The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on N.C. 55 near the Toll 540 ramp. Town of Cary officials said the wreck involved two SUVs that rammed in a head-on collision.

    One fatality was confirmed from the crash, while another person was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, town officials said.

    The roadway was shut down on N.C. 55 in the immediate area of the northbound side of the 540 ramp, according to Cary officials. It was closed until about 6:20 p.m.
