GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — It’s finally game week for many college football teams and that includes the ECU Pirates.

ECU will play host to Norfolk State to open the season Saturday night. The Spartans have already played a game, falling to Florida A&M in their opener.

ECU Head Coach Mike Houston spoke to the media Monday ahead of the weekend. “It has been, it’s been a long while, so but excited that we’re going to play, really excited we’ll be at home,” he said. “Just can’t wait till 6 p.m. Saturday night and see our fans again and to be back in that difficult stadium. Norfolk State was a big underdog against Florida A&M. They played them tough, lost by a single point 24-23.”

“Yeah. And just, you know, a little bit of a busted play there on the two-point conversion at the end to win the ballgame. And I think they came out and they established the identity that they have, I think been working on the, you know, a lot of 12 personnel, really downhill run game gaps, schemes, you know, counter and ran a little bit of power, a lot of variations of inside zone,” he said. “But the two running backs, particularly 13, you know, they really did a good job of getting downhill ran for well over 200 yards against Florida A&M and gave themselves a chance to win the ballgame.”
