POLLOCKSVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The second groundbreaking ceremony for Jones County Emergency Services this summer took place Wednesday.

Elected officials and those working with the new EMS station gave speeches to celebrate the project, which is mainly funded by the state. Its future sister station in Trenton is funded by the Department of Agriculture.

“The population is sparse and for years, rural areas are just not gotten the funding that they deserve,” North Carolina Rep. for District 12 Chris Mumphrey said. “I mean, they don’t have the tax base to fund buildings like this.”

“This is a big accomplishment. I’ve been with Jones County for 12 years, full-time, 14 years in total,” Jones County Emergency Services Director Ryan Mills said. “It’s been a vision that’s been happening before then.”
