NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — Republican candidate for Governor, and Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson made campaign stops in four different Eastern NC counties Thursday.

He visited Craven, Pamlico, Beaufort and Jones counties. He said that going out and meeting potential voters is about energy. “It’s just energizing the base, you know? It’s what we got to do,” he said. “We got to get folks out to vote, got to get them energized, come out and vote. You know, there’s always a significant amount of people who don’t come out to vote. We want to energize every single solitary voter to come out and vote, because we know that’s going to make the difference in the election.”

A new WNCT poll in partnership with Emerson College shows Josh Stein having a six-point lead over Robinson. “We don’t, we don’t really pay those polls too much attention because what we’re paying to is the ground. We have our ear to the ground,” he said. “We have a ton of grassroots support out here. Everywhere we go, we have support across the state, even in the big blue counties, we’ve got a ton of support, and we know if we keep doing exactly what we’re doing right now, we’re going to win this race.”

Many voters showed up to show support for Robinson.”Being an Asian and a minority, I’ve seen that here, seeing that there is a lot of support from, you know, he obviously is black. So, you know, seeing different culture,” one voter said.

“You know, not afraid to step up for the average person. He talks, he acts like he’s been there,” Voter William Faix said. “He’s dealt with some of the issues that most of us are fighting for.”

Robinson’s response about the other side of the aisle and Stein was that his campaign isn’t buying into the war of conjecture. “We’re not presenting a wild message of conjecture like Josh Stein,” Robinson said. “Josh Stein spends 90 percent of his time talking about Mark Robinson. We spend 90 percent of our time talking about the plans that we have for North Carolina. And they’re on the substantive issues, the five pillars that hold up our economy, public safety, public education, health care, infrastructure, housing, and how the governor plays a crucial role in making sure that those things are nice and healthy.”
