    Plymouth man identified as victim in Merry Hill fatal shooting, authorities continue investigation

    UPDATE (WNCT) — Bertie County authorities identified Saturday night’s shooting victim in Merry Hill as William Thomas Johnson, 60, of Plymouth.

    “Investigators have confirmed that the suspect fled on foot from the scene and got into a vehicle near the scene. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a blue hoodie and black pants no other descriptive information is available at this time,” The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

    Anyone with information that could help solve the crime is asked to call Bertie County investigators at 252-794-5330. The NCSBI is assisting with the investigation.

    MERRY HILL, N.C. (WNCT) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation following a fatal shooting outside a business in Bertie County Saturday night.

    According to information released on Facebook from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Dollar General in Merry Hill after shots were fired around 9:30 p.m.

    First responders located a man who had been shot in the parking lot of the business. The victim was assessed by local EMS personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene.

    “The suspect was described as a black male wearing a blue hoodie and black pants. No other descriptive information is available at this time,” the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office stated.

    Units from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Ahoskie Police Department searched for the suspect, but no arrests have been made.
