    Martin County Sheriff’s Office warns citizens of scammer requesting bitcoin

    MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports on Thursday regarding a scammer.

    According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, a person is claiming to be a Martin County Deputy Sheriff calling citizens and requesting money. In these calls, the caller is identifying himself as Sergeant Jeff Griffin with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and is claiming that if they do not send money in via bitcoin, there would be an order issued for their arrest.

    The caller ID shows up as the number 252-789-4500 which is the phone number to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. If you receive this call, contact law enforcement immediately.
