DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A teenage boy has been charged after crashing a stolen vehicle into a home in Durham Wednesday night, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office said.

It was just after 10 p.m. when a deputy said he observed a driver operating a vehicle carelessly and recklessly on Dearborn Drive. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver refused and instead turned onto Thelma Street.

Just as they turned, investigators said that the driver struck a vehicle parked in a driveway and then crashed into the porch of a home. Following the crash, they immediately jumped and ran from the scene.

According to deputies, a responding K-9 team arrived and was able to locate the driver hiding behind a nearby home. The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was taken into custody without further incident.

A custody order was granted and a juvenile petition was completed on the charges of felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, damage to personal property and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, investigators said.
