WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — In Winterville’s most recent town council meeting, local leaders are talking about adding stop signs to an intersection.

They said Boyd and Mill in Winterville has been a hotspot for vehicle crashes in the area and are now pushing for action to make the intersection safer. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has already conducted a study and has agreed to install a four-way stop. The project is still waiting on local approval.

“We need a traffic light here because there have been so many accidents here,” Mattie De’Jesus of Winterville said. “They tore up my yard and hit the house next door.”

“So, we’ve seen an increase of traffic incidents over the past few years. We’ve had about 15 over the last three,” Assistant Town Manager of Winterville Anthony Bowers said. “Some of them have been more than minor fender benders. We’ve had a rollover about a few years ago and so it has drawn attention to some of the citizens and some of the council members.”
