HUBERT, N.C. (WNCT) — The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed two men died in connection to a shooting Saturday on Glenwood Drive in Hubert.

Upon arriving at the home, Paul Sallmen, 43, was found with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving attempts, Sallmen was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Ryan J. Whalen, 30. Whalen was later found near Buckhaven Road and Sandridge Road by Swansboro police officers and Troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol. As officers approached Whalen’s vehicle, they said they heard a gunshot. Whalen was found dead inside the vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Law enforcement found this happened as an incident of domestic violence. They said Whalen and a woman had previously been in a relationship but were no longer together. They said they found Whalen was angered by the woman’s relationship with Sallmen.
