SWANSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) — There’s been a string of hit-and-runs on ducks in Swansboro this past month.

Police said it’s not the first time something like this has happened as Swansboro is known for its ducks waddling the streets. Now, some in the town are furious over how they’re being treated.

Some of the first reports of people running over the ducks started early last month. Swansboro police said that they responded to the complaints.

As of now, they don’t have any leads even though they’ve checked doorbell cameras and other surveillance cameras nearby to see if they could find a culprit, but had no luck.

They said even if they did find a suspect, they do not know what they could do when it comes to the law. They said that most of these kind of accidents happen at night or when it’s raining.

A suspect could easily just say that they didn’t see them, but that doesn’t make citizens like Jasmine Rudisill any less upset.

“Here you see ducks everywhere. You should stop because they’re scared here and they’re adorable,” she said. “Like how you can, you not, like stop and watch them. It’s like, same thing goes with the geese over near Jacksonville area. You stop it, and these geese can stop traffic. Ducks can stop traffic.”

Other people in the town said that even though the town has a duck problem, this is not the way to handle it.
