JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — On Monday, a parent of a Northside High School student voiced concerns regarding bed bugs in their student’s school issued laptop.

The laptop was collected and inspected by district IT and facilities management staff. After inspecting the device, it was confirmed that there were bed bugs in the laptop.

This specific device was issued to NHS students during the 2023-2024 school year and was stored in the media center over summer break. Onslow County Schools district maintenance staff inspected the media center and set an pest management plan where the devices were stored.

Brad Staley, Northside High School Principal, notified all NHS families and asked students to return their devices and chargers to school on Tuesday morning. The laptops and chargers were bagged and taken to an off-site storage location.

It is crucial to prevent the spread of bed bugs by inspecting your student’s personal belongings. The district’s goal is to be proactive and provide replacement devices as soon as possible.

Great. That means they’re in the schools too. My husband drives a bus and hopefully they exterminate those as well. Parents I understand they are hard to get rid of, but if everyone took care of their homes then they will stop just knowingly spread them.
