GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — If you’ve woken up with a chill the past few days, it’s no surprise. Temperatures are getting cooler, indicating flu season is upon us.

As it approaches, it’s important to be proactive. Whether it’s taking care of a runny nose, or other flu-like symptoms, health experts are making people aware of the flu before it’s at peak season. ECU Health Officials are urging citizens to get a head start this season by getting your vaccines. The CDC said North Carolina is at a moderate to minimal level of flu cases.

Currently, there is a rise in COVID-19 cases, but as we get closer to the fall, the flu will become more dominant.

“So, we are coming into the respiratory viral season. So that includes influenza, COVID-19 and a little bit of RSV as well. As long as some of your regular cold viruses. Currently, we’re seeing a lot of COVID-19 going around right now. That’s the predominant virus. But as the weather’s starting to get colder, we’re very likely to see more influenza,” ECU Health Medical Director of Infection Prevention Dr. Jacob Pierce said.

Dr. Pierce said vaccinations are starting to become available at local pharmacies and primary care clinics. If you want to schedule a vaccination or have questions about services available, ECU Health recommends contacting your primary care doctor.
