CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Members of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve made a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics and illegal firearms.

Tuesday, they announced several arrests that authorities believe could increase public safety. The bust led to 32 arrests for drug and firearm charges. Deputies seized more than 23,000 units of meth and more than 6,000 of cocaine. A total of 15 illegal firearms were also confiscated.

“We have done a substantial drug roundup and most of them as you’d see with this one include weapons that were possessed by felons that are used in the commission of these crimes and selling narcotics,” Sheriff Chip Hughes said. “And many of them are convicted felons and they’re not supposed to have a firearm.”

The Sheriff’s Office plans to increase patrols in high-risk areas and continue working with state and federal agencies to dismantle drug operations across the county.
