GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A new health clinic in West Greenville had a ribbon cutting on Tuesday.

The clinic is located in the same building as Joy Soup Kitchen and aims to serve the underprivileged in that area. The clinic is named the Dr. Irons Health-Assist Clinic and will provide healthcare services for uninsured patients at no cost.

The clinic has actually been operating out of the Joy Building unofficially for the past year. They were offering services on a smaller scale but now with the official unveiling of the clinic, it provides space for two exam rooms that offer free health care services to a community in need.

It aims to provide medical attention in one space that’s easily accessible to everyone. Dr. Tom Irons and his team have already been serving the Pitt County community through the Pitt County Care Clinic, but they wanted to expand their reach to those in need.

“Well, we’ll be able to help people get to care and get them set up in long-term programs of care. Where necessary, we’ll be able to help people get their blood pressure under control, help people get their diabetes under control while trying to get them into solutions for care that will allow them to have a primary care doctor long term,” Dr. Irons said.

Social workers from the health clinic feel strongly about what they do. They said it’s not just about providing medical services but serving as an advocate for an underprivileged community.

The clinic will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on weekdays and a nurse practitioner will be there on Wednesdays.
