SIDNEY, N.C. (WNCT) — Four horses and one donkey were surrendered to Animal Services after someone reported concerns regarding their welfare. One horse had to be euthanized.

Tuesday afternoon, a report about the welfare of animals on a property in Sidney led Beaufort County officials to investigate. When they arrived, they found that one horse could not stand up. Support from a veterinarian was requested. The veterinarian determined the horse would need to be euthanized.

Animal Services was able to take control of the other four horses and the donkey on the property. Those animals were taken to a foster facility where they are still receiving veterinary care.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services are still investigating this situation.

They are also asking community members to reach out if they see situations like this. Because a member of the community reported this incident, the proper agencies were able to respond.

The person whose property they came off of should be locked up. You know when an animal needs help and obviously they didn’t care they need to be shown the same.
