GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — School is back in session for Project SEARCH students. ECU Health Medical Center has this program to help students with developmental and intellectual disabilities learn vocational skills in a hospital setting.

These students complete three internships throughout the school year and learn the skills to help them be confident in a work environment.

“Just get them like learning through the hospital, learning their way around. And like some of them, it’s just getting that first bit of independence that they’ve had,” Project SEARCH Instructor Lyndsey Jones said. “Being able to navigate this huge hospital on their own and get to learn all the people in different departments and learning how, just how everything works and getting to meet new friends and coworkers.”
