Single-vehicle crash in Carteret County results in one death

DAVIS, NC (WNCT) — A 35-year-old man was killed in a single-car crash on US 70 in Carteret County around 4 a.m.

Donovan Smith of Atlantic, NC was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when he crossed the centerline and ran off the road. The truck overturned into a canal on the shoulder of the roadway.

Smith wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle where he was pinned under the vehicle.

It was raining at the time of the crash. Speed and slick tires were determined to contribute to the crash.
