GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The East Carolina football team started out strong Saturday, but faltered late, falling 21-19 to Appalachian State.

ECU led 16-0 in the first quarter after a pick-6 interception return by Shavon Revel. The Mountaineers found themselves at that point and cut the lead to 16-14 at the half.

App. State took the lead in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Joey Aguilar to Makai Jackson, putting the mountain visitors up 21-16.

ECU got a field goal in the fourth quarter, their only score after the first, leading to the final score.

Aguilar threw for 424 yards on the Pirate defense. Jake Garcia, for ECU, threw for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception in defeat.

Winston Wright Jr. caught the lone scoring ball from Garcia and Rahjai Harris rushed for 87 yards for ECU. The Mountaineers also controlled the clock, possessing the ball for 39 minutes to ECU’s 21.
