    Man killed in overnight shooting at Hal Orr’s Inn in Rocky Mount, police say

    ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – A 39-year-old man died after a fight escalated to a shooting at a motel in Rocky Mount early Sunday morning, police said.

    According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers responded at around 1:04 a.m. to the 2400 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard after receiving reports of gunfire. Following a preliminary investigation, police said a fight broke out at Hal Orr’s Inn, resulting in a man getting shot.

    The victim was then transported to the 400 block of Saint Paul Street, which is where he ultimately died from injuries, despite life-saving efforts from EMS crews, police said.

    Rocky Mount police identified the victim as 39-year-old Mack Jenkins.

    “The Rocky Mount Police Department has initiated an investigation into the incident as a homicide,” a news release from the police department stated.
