    Man arrested for murder of a four-month old after an investigation beginning in April

    WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — On April 2, members of the Wayne County EMS, Duplin County EMS, Mount Olive Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Olive Fire Department responded to an unresponsive four month old infaant.

    Life-saving efforts were performed on the scene and in the ambulance. The four-month-old patient was transferred to ECU Health in Greenville where the patient passed away two days later. Following an autopsy, detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office interviewed people involved in the incident and an earlier medical call on March 21.

    Based on the information detectives gathered from the medical examiner’s office and their investigation, Demarjai Za’Quan Stukes was charged with an open count of murder and placed under no bond in the Wayne County Detention Center.
