HAVELOCK, N.C. (WNCT) — At 4:58 p.m. on Monday, the Havelock Police Department, fire department and EMS arrived to the scene of a multiple car collision on U.S. Highway 70 in the west bound lanes.

Officers located four cars in the incident and reporter multiple injuries. One of the drivers, Michael Iorizzo, 18 of Havelock, was killed in the crash.

After investigation, officers determined Iorizzo was traveling east of U.S. HWY 70 when he lost control and drove into the west bound lanes. Iorizzo was struck by a vehicle in the east bound lane.

According to the Havelock PD press release, standing water and heavy rain seem to be a factor.

The crash is still being investigated by the Havelock PD and the NC highway Patrol.

I passed the accident and it looked bad. So many emergency vehicles. I came back 30 minutes later and was stuck for an hour. My thoughts and prayers to the families involved.
