MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — Impacts from the low-pressure system that blew through Eastern North Carolina are still causing flooding throughout Carteret County after heavy rain hit different parts of the area Monday night.

There is ponding throughout the county including the entrance to Walmart and Lowes off Hwy 70. There’s also some in neighborhoods like Blair Farm Parkway and Jocelyn Drive. Officials said there were multiple cars stuck in the water Tuesday morning after hydroplaning. They said even when standing water doesn’t look that deep, it’s a lot safer to find a way around it.

Public Information Officer for Morehead City, Anna Smith, said to still be aware of areas that tend to flood.

“So, sometimes that includes the waterfront district here. There’s a private intersection, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Wal-Mart that tends to see a lot of flooding, as well as, some other areas down North 20th Street or along Fisher and Bay Street,” Smith said.

Wednesday will be the peak of king tides for the week, meaning the tides are higher than normal due to a full or new moon. This also depends on the season. Other areas along the coast were hit with flooding like in Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach.
