GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Employees with the “Little Washington Inn On Main” in downtown Washington said they’re the latest victim of a scam.

The owner said scammers are using their business name. They were made aware when a woman showed up saying she had a reservation but it wasn’t in the system. The owner said a fake website called “Hotels in America” shows their inn at a discounted price. It then takes the customer’s credit card information and gives them a fake reservation.

The inn only uses its own website, Expedia, Travelocity and Booking.com.

“We have worked so hard to get our booking channels and help have guests be able to find us on the Internet. And that’s not easy,” Owner Felecia Huggins said. “When you first start out, you have to do everything you can to get your name out there. And then, for these people just to hijack my name and use it is so frustrating and it’s even more frustrating when the guests show up without a place to stay and I can’t accommodate. We’ve been booked up for weeks.”

Huggins said she contacted the fake websites and the Better Business Bureau. She said customers should always check the website they’re using to make sure it’s real.
