Will tonight’s Supermoon, partial lunar eclipse be visible across the Carolinas?

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — It is a big, big, big night for stargazers across the world. Later this evening, we will have the Supermoon and partial lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth is positioned between the moon and the sun.

The Earth will be positioned partially between the moon and sun tonight, which means tonight’s event will be a partial lunar eclipse. This means that the Earth’s shadow will dim the moon partially.

The partial lunar eclipse will start at 10:13 p.m. and end at 11:16 p.m.

The peak of tonight’s eclipse will be at 10:44 p.m.

Tonight is also considered a Supermoon as well, which means it will appear bigger and brighter.

The forecast isn’t necessarily ideal for tonight’s Supermoon partial lunar eclipse. However, a few breaks in the clouds are possible and could yield at least a brief view of the full “harvest” moon for some. Areas of fog will develop late tonight and into early Wednesday morning, which would really diminish the view for some.

A stray shower can’t be ruled out as you are out watching the sky. However, most will remain dry.

Even with the clouds overhead, get out tonight with the family and friends. Try to get a look at it. This is certainly a bright light to the night sky.
