BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A man was arrested in Bertie County on Wednesday for breaking and entering into a residence.

An owner of a vacant property on Lake Drive Lewiston/ Woodville went to check on the residence. When he arrived, he found James Baker of Lewiston/ Woodville inside. The owner of the property was able to keep Baker from leaving until law enforcement arrived and took Baker into custody.

In the past three weeks, officials say this residence has been broken into and vandalized twice. Investigators with the sheriff’s office are still looking into the previous break-ins and have suspects.

Baker was arrested, processed and confined into the Bertie/ Martin Regional Jail under no bond.
