WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — Johnny Cash is now enshrined on Capitol Hill joining historical figures from America’s past.

An unveiling ceremony celebrated the completion of a bronze statue of the Arkansas native and renowned music artist.

With classics, like ‘I Walk the Line’ and ‘Ring of Fire’ music legend Johnny Cash has now found himself in a new unlikely venue, Capitol Hill.

“He was a Shakespeare of the south,” said his daughter Rosanne Cash.

His daughter, Rosanne, says her father never forgot his Arkansas upbringing, “there was so much love in him,” she said.

Members of the Cash family joined lawmakers from Arkansas for the unveiling of a bronze statue depicting the “Man in Black.”

“And to just about every other musical family in the south, after God and country came Johnny Cash,” said Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Ark.).

“Though he came from a little town in Arkansas, he knew how to talk to all of America.”

The statue shows the singer with a guitar slung across his back and a bible in his hand.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) says Cash never strayed away from his beliefs.

“And I think it should remind us of the importance of faith in our great American life,” Johnson said.

Cash is in a league of his own, from the country music and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, and now the halls of Congress.

“His style inspired generations of artists,” said House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

The statue will stand next to civil rights leader Daisy Bates, whose statue was unveiled at the Capitol earlier this year.
