Edenton man arrested on gun charges in Bertie County

MERRY HILL, N.C. (WNCT) — The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on gun charges Friday night.

Dashawn Leary, 31, of Edenton, was charged with:

Possession of a firearm by a felon
Possession of a stolen firearm
Carrying a concealed weapon
Driving while license revoked
Speeding 70 mph in a 55 zone

Law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 17 in Merry Hill. Deputies smelled a strong marijuana odor and executed a search which led to the stolen gun being found.

Leary was jailed in the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under a $3,000 secured bond.
